Our history

Our History: 35 Years of Engineering Discipline

The physical layer beneath every digital claim — hardware, support, and discipline since 1989.

The story of SAM7 began at the dawn of India’s IT revolution. While the industry rushed toward software, our founder, Sampath K Iyengar, chose the unyielding world of hardware and infrastructure—the physical layer upon which every digital claim eventually rests.

Technical Foundations (1980s)

Sampath built his reputation at the cutting edge of early hardware technology:

  • Specialized Training: He was among the first Indians trained on Epson printers through a collaboration with Wipro.
  • Critical Infrastructure: As a lead engineer at Minafax Computers, he was responsible for the systems of India’s most demanding organizations, including VSNL, TIFR, IOCL, and HUDCO.
  • Troubleshooting Mastery: Known for resolving "unsolvable" technical failures, his hands-on expertise often outperformed traditional engineering degrees.

The Support-First Blueprint

Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, Sampath established Systems & Services (now SAM7). In an era focused on aggressive sales, he built the company on a rare 1:5 sales-to-support ratio. We deliberately weighted the organization toward people who fix, document, and stand behind what we ship.

International partnerships (1998)

Building relationships with global hardware vendors and staying close to the supply chain — part of the same discipline that still defines how SAM7 specifies and supports infrastructure.

Retail Pioneering & Adaptation

As personal computing exploded, SAM7 became a retail pioneer, opening some of the first dedicated HP showrooms in Bandra and Andheri. We navigated the Y2K boom and subsequent industry mergers, adapting our model as the market shifted toward e-commerce. Through every wave, we remained a stable, hyperlocal partner for Mumbai’s businesses.

Resilience Through the Decades

From navigating the global pandemic to the transition from local LANs to complex automation, SAM7 has never abandoned its core identity: hyperlocal, hands-on, and technically disciplined.

Today, this 35-year legacy of hardware mastery has evolved into our "Wire to Cloud" philosophy, providing the physical and digital backbone for the AI-powered era.
